0870 Numbers: LATEST OFCOM UPDATE - July 2009

Important Notice to all 0870 users

Following OFCOM's 0870 regulation change we have now been notified of the new related charges. As of the 1st August 2009 the following charges will be applied to your account:

The 0870 number range will now be charged at 1.99ppm at all times for inbound calls

'You will no longer receive revenue from inbound calls'

As a result of the above decision taken by OFCOM, 0845free.co.uk will no longer recommend 0870 services to it's client but will continue to support those clients who wish to keep their existing 0870 numbers.

This means that we, as your service provider, will require a signed Service Agreement with Direct Debit mandate from you in order to provide a continued 0870 services.

Please note:

IF WE DO NOT RECEIVE YOUR INSTRUCTIONS, INCLUDING A SIGNED SERVICE AGREEMENT AND DIRECT DEBIT MANDATE WHERE APPLICABLE, BY THE 'APPLY DATE' THEN YOUR 0870 NUMBERS WILL BE SUSPENDED IN ORDER TO AVOID UNAUTHORISED ONGOING CHARGES TO ALL PARTIES.

If you decide that your 0870 number is no longer suitable for you and you would like to maintain some level of rebate payment you can move the service onto an alternative tariff such as 0844 at 1ppm rebate (cost to caller 5p per minute) or an 0871 number at 2.5ppm rebate (cost to caller 10p per minute).

For further detailed information on rebates, charges and advise please see the section 'What to do' below.

If you choose to move to another range, you can place a Call Announcement (message) advising any callers of the new replacement number (this may incur a cost). The announcement can run for as long as you wish however during this period the new inbound charges for 0870 will apply.

If you are prepared to keep your 0870 number and pay to receive calls it may be worth considering an ' 0800 ' number at 4.5ppm for inbound calls with free calls to your caller giving you increased marketing value. Service Agreement with Direct Debit instructions required.

Should you wish to discuss any of the above please contact your account manager or a member of the support team on 08000 72 72 75

What to do if you have an 0870's registered with us:

You will have to consider the consequence of any of the following decisions and take immediate action based on the following.

In summary, there are four options that you must consider :

                         Keep your 0870

                         0370 Migration

                         0844 Migration

                         0871 Migration

Keep your 0870

You will need to take into consideration the following plus and minus points:

  • You will move from a 'credit' to a 'debit 'situation overnight.

  • The number will continue to route calls but revenue share will cease.

'You will no longer receive revenue from inbound calls'

  • Cost to caller - The 0870 number range will now be charged to you at 1.99ppm at all times for inbound calls.

  • Up to 75% saving for callers from the previous high charge of 6 - 8 ppm from their supplier, giving it more appeal.

This will also result in changes to your account with ourselves and will require you to sign a Service Agreement with a Direct Debit mandate for the payment of the new charges.

IMPORTANT

Are you able to change your number - if so do so.

You will need to think about the effects on your business with regards to Advertising, stationary etc.

Keeping your number keeps your identity but can you afford 'not' to change your number.

BACK

Migrate to 0370

Cost to caller - national rate as charged by their supplier

Revenue share is nil

Move the 0870 to a corresponding 0370 number, for example 0870 111 0000 to 0370 111 0000, no revenue share is available on this range.

You will continue to receive Statements as before.

Where possible a number match will be made available across the 0370 range.

BACK

Migrate to 0844

Cost to caller  - 5ppm

Revenue share is 1.00ppm.

As this is a fixed rate number range there will be no changes in the future.

This is the happy medium for the caller when compared to the alternatives they would pay either the national rate charged by their carrier on 0370's or 10.00ppm fixed rate on 0871's.

The revenue is reduced by a third. However, where minute usage is greater than 20,000 mins per month this will rise to 1.5ppm.

You will continue to receive Statements as before.

BACK

Migrate to 0871

Cost to caller - 10ppm

Revenue share is 2.50ppm

As this is a fixed rate number range there will be no changes in the future.

Moving to 0871 / 0844 will enable you to continue to receive  revenue share, in the case of 0844 ( 5ppm ctc) you will receive less revenue share than 0870. If you  migrate to 0871 you will receive more than 0870 but at a higher cost to the caller.

It will be possible to run both the old 0870 and the new 0844/0871 in tandem and have a message on the 0870 advertising the 0844 / 0871 numbers. There is no possibility of corresponding numbers as in the 0370 example as carriers do not have unallocated corresponding ranges.

You will continue to receive Statements as before.
