0845free.co.uk have been instructed by OFCOM, to
advise its clients, that it has determined that 0870 revenue share will
cease in 2008. New date TBA.
If you have 0870's registered with us. You will have
to consider the consequence of this decision and take action based on the
following.
In summary, there are four options that you must
consider :

0370
Migration
0844
Migration
0871 Migration
Keep your 0870
Cost
to caller - national rate as charged by their supplier. The number will
continue to route calls but revenue share will cease.
In addition, we await carrier confirmation of the
termination charge that will be introduced in February 2008 - This is
where a charge to the Registered owner (you) is made to subsidise the call
- the cost is expected between 1.00ppm and 2.00ppm.
This will also result in changes to your account
with ourselves and will require you to sign a Service Agreement with a
Direct Debit agreement for the payment of the new expected charges.
IMPORTANT
Are you able to change your number - if so do so.
You will need to think about the effects on your
business with regards to Advertising, stationary etc.
Keeping
your number keeps your identity but can you afford
not to change your number.
Due to additional charges that will now replace the
current revenue stream you will move from a credit to a debit situation
overnight.
BACK
Migrate to
0370
Cost
to caller - national rate as charged by their supplier
Revenue share is nil
Move the 0870
to a corresponding 0370 number, for example 0870 111 0000 to 0370 111
0000, no revenue share is available on
this range.
You will continue to receive Statements as before.
Where possible a number match will be made available
across the 0370 range.

Migrate
to 0844
Cost
to caller - 5ppm
Revenue share is 1.00ppm.
This is the happy medium for the caller where they
pay either the national rate on 0370's or 10.00ppm on 0871's.
The revenue is reduced by a third. However, where minute usage is greater
than 20,000 mins per month you will receive 1.5ppm.
You will continue to receive Statements as before.

Migrate to 0871
Cost
to caller - 10ppm
Revenue share is 2.50ppm
Moving to 0844 / 0871 will enable you to continue to receive revenue
share, in the case of 0844 ( 5ppm) you will receive less
revenue share than 0870. If you migrate to 0871 you will receive more
than 0870 but at a higher cost to the caller.
It will be possible to run both the old 0870 and the new 0844/0871 in
tandem and have a message on the 0870 advertising the 0844 / 0871 numbers.
There is no possibility of corresponding numbers as in the 0370 example as carriers do
not have unallocated corresponding ranges.
You will continue to receive Statements as before.
